Who We Are
Alexandrina Hemsley and Amanda Prince-Lubawy have studied contemporary dance and performance, both through studio practice and theoretical discourse. As freelance artists, they choreograph, perform, and write as an affirmative contribution to the field of dance and performance. Their shared interests shape their partnership under the name of The Shrinking Violets.
The Shrinking Violets blog offers a space where opinion and subjective possibilities are at play. It is transparent and invitational. Similar to a column or opinion piece, we as writers also use it as a place for on-going research into the field of performance and encourage contribution from our readers. Although we respect those within the dance field who continue to disseminate their work within a self-contained dance environment, we are not writing for a pure dance audience. We consider ourselves as writing through dance as a way of involving whoever is curious about performance and its surrounding topics.
