The Shrinking Violets

a platform for two dance artists to explore, comment on and debate the performance environment they situate themselves in.

Manifesto

The Shrinking Violets’ Manifesto       06/10/11

The Shrinking Violets are a band:

harmonic, temperamental, taking things one gig at a time, married to the job.

The Shrinking Violets believe in passion, involvement, and keeping our hearts beating.

The Shrinking Violets question towards possibility.

The Shrinking Violets don’t take ourselves too seriously but just seriously enough.

The Shrinking Violets want people to run into each other. We invite you to run into us. We’re not talking handshakes, we mean as if you’re embracing someone at the airport who you haven’t seen in a year. Or perhaps, you run into someone who broke your heart and you give them a good slap in the face.

The Shrinking Violets want you to engage in dialogue: ‘mirror talk’ is a one way street.

The Shrinking Violets are full of making performative statements, self-deprecation, curiosity, bodily functions, and romanticism; the only tangible reality that freelance artists can relish in.

The Shrinking Violets dance on stage, in the bedroom, on paper, alone, with each other, through private and public space.

The Shrinking Violets are untidy, domestic, wolves who fall in love too easily.

The Shrinking Violets wish jousting was still around….Aim. Charge. Pierce. Most likely fall over. Get back up. Find horse. Re-mount. Go again.
